Campaign Kick-Off Event a Success! Congressman Bob Filner, County Board of Supervisors Chairman Greg Cox, Mayor Jerry Sanders, San Diego City Council President Scott Peters, City Councilmember Ben Hueso, and other elected officials were on hand for the release of San Diego’s 2010 Active Transportation Campaign Case Statement and, at the same time, break ground on a new section of the Bayshore Bikeway. What is the Active Transportation Campaign?The campaign, like others going on around the country, is sponsored by the Rails to Trails Conservancy and aims to make sure our next Federal Transportation bill includes a program that promotes walking and bicycling infrastructure. The current proposal would provide 40 communities through the country with $50 million each to build infrastructure and programs that will get people to switch from driving to walking and bicycling.
